Very worried about bowels

Hi, I'm new on here. I have had some bowel problems since last year, but most resolved. It all started about 9 months ago when I had diarrhea for a couple weeks. Then it settled down to normal stools but the water was so cloudy I could only just see the stools in the toilet. The doctor ordered a stool test which came back normal. This lasted a couple of months and then went back to normal. Just before Christmas I started having a lot of floating stools. This went on for weeks and then I went to see the doctor. She gave me a good examination and said that was all normal.I had a blood test which came back normal and a stool test for blood which was clear. However I did another stool test that I didn't know what it was for. The doctor rang me and said it was my calprotectin levels which had come back borderline. She said it was nothing to worry about. I'd never heard of it so looked it up, which really worried me. I was suipposed to do a repeat test a few weeks later but my son caught covid and I had to self isolate. During this time my bowels went back to what appeared normal. No more floaters or anything. Having been normal for about three months I tried not to worry about it. However I now have a weird problem. It started about three weeks ago, some days the stool would stand up on end in the toilet not really floating as one end was on the bottom. Then I noticed it was looking a very curved shape. I have this every day now and some days it is actually in the shape of a letter C or one day it was L shaped. This is really, really worrying me as I've never had it look like that before. I googled it, I know I shouldn't but the puzzling thing is there is virtually no mention of such a thing on the web. You get the Bristol chart with everything, colour, texture, shape but nothing like mine. The only thing I found was an obscure site which said C shape was healthy, I don't see how it can be. I'm very worried that it has to come past some growth of some sort which is making it that shape. The thing is with the calprotectin, I'm worried that may have gone up, just done the test but won't get the results before next week. I have no symptoms which I thought would show raised levels, the stool is normal in every way except the shape. Has anyone heard of such a shape? I am so, so anxious about it.

The doctor is going to ring me about the results and I have to wait to talk to her till then.

Sorry this is long.

  • Hello Kiddo and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry for the worry this is causing but I'm glad you've managed to get back to the doctor and fingers crossed it won't be long until you hear back from the doctors about your results.

Hopefully some of our members will get back to you soon but in the meantime, I hope the tips and advice given on this website will help you whilst you wait.

We'll have our fingers crossed your calprotectin levels haven't gone up Kiddo.

    Kind regards,
