Vertigo and dizzyness

My dad had his first chemo on Thursday. Since then he cannot stop being sick and we have been admitted to a&e twice since then. The issue now seems to be vertigo. If he lies down he's okay but as soon as he moves his head he gets dizzy and starts vomiting again. This has been constant for 4 days now and it's really getting him down. Any advice?

    Hi Victoriajayne,

I have no personal experience of chemo and I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s reaction to it. Did the hospital not warn you about the sickness, or give you any medication to help reduce it? What have they done when you have visited A & E?

Have you phoned the clinic to ask if there is anything you can do to combat this? It might be a good idea to contact them and explain all his symptoms. You could also phone the nurses on this site for advice. Phone calls are free and the nurses are very helpful.

I hope that this resolves itself soon.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi yes they warned us and sent him home with pills but none of it's working.

They keep giving him drips and then sending him home. Finally, they kept him in last night so hopefully we will find out more today

    Hi Victoriajayne,

I am glad to hear that your dad was admitted to hospital last night and hope that you find him more comfortable today.

    Thinking of you both,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

This may have nothing to do with his treatment or his cancer. Out of the blue I had an unexpected case of viral labyrinthitis a few months ago and my symptoms of vertigo etc. the symptoms were exactly as you've described your Dad's. It could just be a coincidence.

    Best wishes
