Vacuum biopsy help (sorry it’s graphic)

Hi, when I had my vacuum biopsy - the local anaesthetic didn't fully work and it felt like my nipple was being cut off. The radiologist said it was nowhere near my nipple. Two weeks on and my nipple is so sore and sensitive. Even if the water touches it in the shower - it is agony. Has anyone else had this? It isn't hot in the area or anything so I don't think it's an infection. Do you think I should go back to my doctor or will it heal? Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I think it is okay and normal to get some pain after a surgical procedure and this might last a few days to a few weeks. I think by now if you feel the pain is not getting better do get it checked out. You could do this if you have a follow up appointment at the breast clinic coming up or contact your GP if you feel you need to get this checked out earlier.

I hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
