Urgent referral after abnormal growth seen

Hi I’m feeling so scared at the moment :( , I went to my doctors on the 23rd of jan 2019 as I had been having an abnormal heavy bleeding for 3 weeks none stop with low pelvic tummy ache  which started after sex , doctor did and examination and said all felt ok but she would send me for a ultrasound scan , gave me some transemix acid and the bleeding slowed ( nearly stopped but not quite ) , had a scan on the 9th feb which showed a thickened lining ( not sure how thick as didn’t think to ask ) so the doctor said she would fast track me ( 2week referral ) , had a phone call from the doctor a couple of days later to say because of my age (42) that they were dropping it from a fast track to a normal appointment and then she started me on norethisterone as transamic acid weren’t stopping bleeding , I got my appointment through for gyne at the hospital for the 27th of March ! Today I have just been for a smear and the doctor has seen an unusual growth on cervix which again she is fast tracking me as she dosnt like it !! She says it could be a polyp but I’m so worried I am going out my mind !! How do people cope with the waiting around without worrying yourself insane

  • Hi Laura...

Bless ya, it's really scary waiting for tests and results ... I had all that you mentioned around the same age ... for months .. they didn't send you for tests very quickly then, like they do now.. so I went private and it was pollips ... and I needed a hysterectomy ... so fingers crossed your will be pollips too ..

But try to keep as busy as you can ... I know easier said then done... but no amount of panicking will change the outcome... and it just may be o.k ... Chrissie x

  • Hi Chriss , thank you for your reply , I had my gyne appointment and she has said the growth is a huge polyp which has pertruded out of my cervix , she has told me that there’s nothing that she can see that is worrying her and has taken a biopsy ( waiting for the results ) and am scheduled to have it removed on the 15th of March in hospital , waiting really is so worrying , I hate it ,my mind keeps going off places that I’d rather not be thinking about ! Very scared at the moment even with the gyne reassurance that it’s just a large polyp thank you so much for your reply it means a lot to know others have experienced the same sorts of things x

  • Hi , sorry to jump on this post and I hope everything went ok for you , I am 51 yrs old and thought it was an age thing but after a few months of heavy periods and stomach cramps I went for my smear test which came back normal but the doctor referred me to the gynocologist about the heavy periods,  by the time I had my appointment I hadn't had a period in 3 months and she said everything felt fine , in January this year I started spotting most days but again put it down to my age ,I've just had what I thought a period which lasted 10 days and spotting since  I am due to get married in September so went back to the doctor to see if she could give me something to help stop it , anyway after she examined me she said she could see a large growth protruding from my cervix and referred me for an urgent gynocologist appointment which is in 2 weeks time ,  I seem to bleed after going to the toilet but I'm not in any pain or discomfort but I am so scared , are my symptoms anything like yours ?

Sorry for long post , feeling lost at the moment

  • Hi jackie , try not to worry to much ( I know it’s easier said than done ) but mine turned out to be a benign polyp , I had an op with just local anaesthetic and they managed to get 3/4 of the polyp out , tests have all come back negative and my bleeding and tummy ache have returned to normal ! It is such a worrying time , I was terrible scared also but everything turned out ok in the end so please try not to worry to much as it was just a polyp , the doctor didn’t know what it was just by looking but the gynaecologist knew almost straight away what it was , good luck on your appointment , you will be fine ️
