Update - have had 2nd chemo now

Hi all,

Been a bit quiet of late as my parents visited for a week.  My twin and nephew come for 4 days next week too.  Apparently "I'm ill" or something :|  It's been great to see people but given how well I've been doing I've probably felt the need to do more because I have people visiting.  I know my parents don't care about doing stuff, they just want to see me, and they are both amazing, but as an introvert even just talking to people is draining and I organise my life to ensure lots of time to myself.

So had first FEC (without the T) at the start of June, my poor husband got all the side effects.  He was green by the end of it and I had to drive home (I was fine).  Stayed off work till day 6 (just to get used to how it would be) and went to work from day 7, managing two days a week so far.  Having three small meals a day with two snacks and drinking lots of water.  Did suffer from neutropenia and had the beginnings of a kidney infection of some sort but managed to nip it in the bid and got to go to both Kevin Bridges' gigs that I had tickets for :)  The kicking in of the immune system booster (Lonquex/Lipegfilgrastim) was certainly noticeable but no worse than other pain I've had for decades.

Hair started to come out easily at day 13 for me and then very fast from day 17.

Had second FEC the day after my birthday.  My bloods were on my birthday and were great and I also picked up my wig that day.  Mum came with me this time, all went well again.  My oncologist's letter to my GP is that I am coping with the chemotherapy better than expected and with the practicalities like having to get a wig etc.  I have no way of knowing if the lump has shrunk at all, it's so hard to find anyway, but fingers crossed.

Today is day 7 of cycle 2 and I didn't go in to work, just slept almost all of the last 3 days, but feeling happy and generally good.  Not eating much these last few days and will have to get a grip and make a point of eating from tomorrow.  Will try and go to work on Friday through to Sunday I think and then take holiday for when my twin is here.

Hope everyone else is getting on alright.

  • Hey LJ,

i has my second lot of chemo last thursday and was rushed to hospital last night with yet another infection. This chemo hates me. I have to stay in for a few nights as my temperature has spiked and can’t keep any food inside me. Not been off the toilet (sorry) so they gotta do all sorts of tests and chest X-ray. They’re talking about changing my chemo drugs as I have such a bad reaction to this lot. I knew I wasn’t right when I went out to watch the football and only just managed 2 guinesses. Glad it’s seems to be going well though for you and glad you had a good bday. Best present is a new wig although it’s so hot right now I’m just rocking full on bald which I never thought I’d do but hey lol.

    Take care

  • Sorry it's going so badly for you Dizzle :(  Hope you're getting good care in the hospital, at least you're in the best place for being ill.

I've gone full bald head now too, it is just too hot around here just now, much easier to sleep at night with no hair.  Got a great wig, but the bald head is cleary where it's at :)  Bet you rocked the football game!

I'll be thinking of you over the coming days and hope they get something sorted out for you with your chemo.

Take it easy, give me a shout if you want to rant or whatever.
