Unusual Bleeding advice

Hello! New to this...but just after some advice or maybe someone who has had similar symptoms as I’m a bit concerned. Obviously I’m aware that seeing a doctor is the best thing to do, but sometimes others’ personal experiences are good to hear and my doctors aren’t that great to be honest.

So I had my first baby in January this year and had a good delivery, water birth no complications etc and recovered quickly with no issues. I had the copper coil fitted 8 weeks post partum after getting my first postpartum period at 6 weeks (even though I exclusively breastfeed). Had no trouble with the coil, periods were fine, slightly more painful cramps than usual but no other issues with timings etc.

Ive had on and off bleeding after passing stools which I put down to giving birth, I thought maybe an anal fissure although nothing was mentioned about me having one at my examination post birth or while having my coil fitted. Also, I have no haemorrhoids.

About 4 weeks ago I started experiencing a sharp pain in my pelvis which lasted about 6 or 7 days and was constant, worse when I went to the toilet and strained (for a wee or a poo). It then turned into a dull pain and has been there since it started, about a month ago; mainly in my front left pelvis but radiates across my whole front pelvis as well. I had my period as usual at the beginning of this monthwhich lasted 5 days, no issues apart from the pelvic pain as well as my period cramps. I then had some very light spotting a week after my period had finished which I put down to my coil (even though it’s almost 5 months post fitting). I had intercourse with my husband about a week and a half ago and started bleeding immediately after (period was not due for another 2 weeks) and have bled since then, along with the pelvic pain. Sometimes bright red blood and sometimes a darker brown blood. It’s not enough to soak a whole sanitary towel, but enough to have to wear one. I’m just wondering if this should be a concern, or whether it’s likely just my coil, even though I’ve had no problems up until now? I’m booked in for a cervical smear on Monday, as I’m only 24 years old it will be early and my first one...and may be worth mentioning I never had a HPV vaccination, not sure if that’s something to worry about also?

I’ve been suffering periodically from intense headaches and I’m always quite tired, but do have a young baby so I did put it down to that haha!

I rang my doctors for an appointment and there’s a waiting list of 5 weeks so just looking for some advice, or maybe someone with similar symptoms.

Thanks for any help offered,

M

  • Hi there - I'm afraid I can't help medically (no medical knowledge) but I think it's good that you are booked in for a smear test soon. Do talk to the nurse/doctor about your symptoms & say how worried you are. If there is any cause for concern they'll get you seen quite quickly I would think.

Do please do your best NOT to think the worst - there's every chance that this is one of those problems that we women have (had long ago in my case :) ) & can easily be sorted out.

Sorry I can't say more about the symptoms you're having but one of the nurses on the site might come along to help. Hope all goes well with the smear test.
