Unexpected swollen lymph node - not always cancer

Hi everyone,

I've been a melanoma patient for many years, Stage 1 in 1996 and Stage 3 since 2009. The primary melanoma was on my shin and then it spread to the nodes in my groin and pelvis.

6 weeks ago, the day after my second Astra Zeneca jab, I noticed a pea sized lump on my breast bone, just above my cleavage. I had read about swollen lymph nodes sometimes being caused by the vaccine but I wanted to ensure that it wasn't the melanoma that had returned. My consultant saw me at short notice and carried out a fine needle aspiration for a biopsy and I received the results today! It wasn't cancer and they are pretty sure it was a side effect of the vaccine. Meanwhile the lump has slowly started to recede and should disappear soon.

So for anyone, especially any cancer patient, who gets a sudden enlarged lymph node, usually in the upper torso or under the arm, get it checked out and hopefully it will be due to the vaccine.

Best wishes to you all,

Angie

  • Hello Angie,

I can imagine you were a bit frightened after that happened especially given your medical history and you wanted to get it checked properly. It's good your consultant took it seriously and did a biopsy straight away and it's reassuring that you got the confirmation that it was vaccine related.

I have read actually on this forum countless posts from users mentioning the very same thing too so it seems to be a fairly common occurrence.  You're absolutely right, it's good to get it checked out and have it confirmed it is vaccine related. I hope the lump disappears soon!

    Best wishes,
