Underwear

Hi

Can anyone recommend underwear for post op (lymph nodes removed and lumpectomy)?  I've picked up an infection so the area under my arm and to the side of my breast is red and tender and painful (but being treated with draining and antibiotics).

Obviously underwired and my usual bras are out and I'm currently wearing a non-wried crop top type bra but the straps are really wide!  Is there anything else out there that I could look at?  The ones I have whilst comfortable are restricting what I can wear.

I appreciate this may seem trivial compared to some posts on here but any advise or help would make my day to day recovery seem a little better if I can wear more of my wardrobe!

Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum Julia.

I'm sorry to hear the infection you've picked up post op is causing irritation under your arm and to the side of your breast but I'm glad to hear it is being treated and I'm sure it will heal soon.

In regards to finding bras that are more suitable for your everyday needs I have found some information on our website that might be a good starting point and Breast Cancer Care may be able to help too. You can visit their website: www.breastcancercare.org.uk or call them for free on 0808 800 6000.

And your post is not trivial in the slightest. It's a great question and I'm sure many of our members have encountered similar problems themselves and now that I've replied I'm sure they will post soon to share their advice and experiences with you.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery,

  • Hi juliaY

i had a mastectomy last September, chemotherapy then radiotherapy so I looked for different bras too, the most comfortable and best value I found to be asda, they sell soft bras with a bit padding in, thin straps too so you can wear vest tops etc.

I looked on line, M&S do comfortable and nice too.

Asda for me the best and most comfortable x
