Under NHS but would Now like to go private

can anyone give me some help or advise. My mother in law is currently sat in a corridor waiting to be seen after calling two ambulances and finally only agreed to be taken in after complaint from her doctor. We are now considering moving her to private care but can this be done and how. She has terminal bone cancer and I feel the NHS is no longer able to meet her needs. Can anyone help or give me any direction that I can take to get her the very best for the time we have left with her. Thanking you in advance

  • Welcome to our forum, and I'm sorry that your mother is in this desperate situation.

Other than pestering the receptionist, I don't know whether anything can be done to help her immediately. Perhaps someone else will be able to come up with some suggestions.

However, it should be possible to buy her nursing care in her own home. I suggest you do a Google search for "Terminal nursing care UK your-city-name", where your-city-name is your nearest big city to your mother. I've no idea how much this is likely to cost.

It is also worthwhile considering hospice care for your mother, and maybe have a chat with her GP, who sounds quite sympathetic and on the ball.

It's probably obvious, but I'm not a doctor, and I'm not associated with any public or private nursing service, and I'm not being sponsored in any way to make this posting.

  • Hi Shazzer68 and welcome to the forum.

I see you've got some good advice and information from Telemando so I just wanted to add to that by letting you know about a website that specialises in private healthcare called private health. Our cancer nurses may be able to point you in the right direction as well so if you'd like to chat to them about this do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I also wanted to put you in touch with another member [@Lemon211]‍. They also joined the forum today as they are in a similar situation with their mum and will know what you're going through so do touch base as you may be able to help each other at this time.

    Kind regards,
