Under arm swelling during chemotherapy

Wonder if anyone had something similar?

Just had my 3rd cycle of chemo on Wednesday, side effects haven't been too bad. And I have noticed a difference with the lump In my breast. During diagnosis I was told no sign cancer had spread to lymph nodes but this morning randomly my armpit was sore and felt swollen. I've seen the Dr and they aren't concerned about it being lymph nodes but I don't understand what else it could be? Anyone had anything similar?

  • Hi Rebecca,

It's good to hear the doctor didn't seem too concerned about this, and I hope it improves for you soon.

If you feel you'd like to talk things through with someone else, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5), although the best person for advice specific to you will always be your doctor/specialist.

Meanwhile if anyone here has any similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Rebecca,

I've just had my 5th week of chemo and also recently had another lymph node biopsy as mine were apparently swollen, and the oncologist suspected there was cancer there. But the results came back all clear (woo hoo!!), and the oncologist said it was probably just the lymph nodes either trying to fight the cancer or responding to the chemo, trying to protect the body that way. Hope this helps a little?

    Best wishes,

    Nicola.
