Ultrasound next week - lump in neck

I have had a hard pea-sized lump in my neck for over a year now - my girlfriend has recently made me go to the doctor as she's worried. I've also been having night sweats, loss of hearing in my right ear / tinnitus, and I'm just generally exhausted. I'm a fit and healthy 27 year old.

I've had blood tests to show there isn't an infection, so have been referred to the hospital (ENT unit) for an ultrasound.

I suppose I'm posting because I'm just very worried and I don't want to keep putting those worries onto my friends / family (so on you lot instead haha!).

Obviously whenever I put my symptoms into Google, it keeps coming back to the same diagnosis - Lymphoma.

Just looking to vent / talk about similar experiences - thanks in advance.

  • Thanks - do you think I'm worrying unnecessarily? Just never had to deal with anything like this before i.e. the unknown!

Update, if anyone is interested (think I'm just using this forum as a place to spill all my concerns without upsettting my family).

Had my hospital appointment yesterday; I'm now booked in for an ultrasound next week as they have found several lumps in my neck.

Worried, Googling the *** out of it, but convinced myself it's nothing. However, if it does appear to be something on the scan, I won't be prepared for the worse haha.

The tiredness is awful. So distracted at work. If they looked at my internet history, I'd be in trouble! (How many times can you Google 'lump in neck, night sweats, fatigue' and find different answers?!)

Has anyone else got tinnitus as a symptom?

  • Hi,

I'm currently under a heamotology consultant for lumps in my neck, fatigue, fever, excess sweating and back pain. I've had CT scan which was clear and have had a neck ultrasound. The sonographer said yes several enlarged lymph nodes but didn't biopsy as she said they are reactive. I'm not convinced by this as had them up for over 2 months now but I suppose we jusy have to go with the flow.

Hope you get some answers soon, it's horrible knowing something is wrong but not knowing wjat that something is.

  • With regards to tinnitus, I have lately had some ringing in my ears but I think that could be down to stress

  • Had all the all clear yesterday - it's definitely not cancer! The relief is over-whelming.

Turns out it's just stress, what a joke my body is haha.

  • Just read this so glad all was ok as I’m waiting for an ultrasound app to check a lump in the back of my neck gave me some piece of mind as I’m always stressed lol

  • did they tell you straight after the scan or did you have to wait? xx

  • Hi everyone I just wanted to tell my story.

I was admitted into hospital in January with right side pain below rib, doctor thought it was gallbladder stones and after many ct scans xrays etc they couldn't find what the problem was, my infection markers were all over the place so they gave me 3 days of different antibiotics through intravenous.

After almost a week I was sent home on morphine for pain and told they would do outpatient investigation.

In the same month I kept waking up with what I thought was a stiff neck on the right side, i thought i had slept wrong and took no notice,

After about 2 months it wasnt getting any better so i phoned the doctors, who told me not to worry as it wasnt related,

This was now around April and the pain was getting worse, not only was it a stiff neck but my glands felt like they were up, phoned the doctor again whom sent me for blood tests, now as this around lockdown I was told it could take a while for any referral.

My blood test came back and I had my phone consultation with doctor, I was asked if there had been any changes etc as my white blood cell count was quite abnormal.... I explained the pain was worse and I felt like my lymph nodes were up as well as enlarged lump below the nodes, I had also noticed a small red lump near my tonsil and slightly sore throat, I had no night sweats or weight loss and only other concerns I had was I had a constant cough and whilst laying down I could hear wheezing, due to my symptoms I was told I would have an appointment with an ENT doctor.

My first appointment was about 6 weeks ago in which he looked at the lump in under 30 seconds and said I think that's benign and looks like blocked salivary gland, he felt my neck and said he could feel a lump and send me for a ultrasound and biopsy.

I had the ultrasound but was told the salivary gland was fine and no biopsy was needed.

Received my appointment letter to go back to ENT in which I did last week he tried to put the camera up my nose and down my throat but I found the whole experience quite painful and told him that my tongue at the back hurt. He said he would send me for an emergency contrast MRI as he could clearly feel a mass in the right side of neck where this pain consists.

Now I'm wondering if it was anything that wasnt serious why would I have increased symptoms that have became worse for the past 5 months and why wasnt anything sinister found on ultrasound yet large enough to be felt by ENT doctor and needing a contrast MRI.

I'm now awaiting my results from the MRI but my mental health has been destroyed as I've had constant pain and constant worry as every google search states cancer.

My 21yr old daughter was diagnosed with mental health illness at 17 and she is completely wrecked with worry and has contemplated suicide rather than stick around to find out I have something that could possibly kill me, I'm struggling everyday in hope it will all be okay not for myself but for the sake of my daughter needing me to be here for her.

Has anyone had symptoms and been okay

  • Any news? Really hope it all worked out well, im kind of going through the same, so looking forward to hearing how thing swent for you
