Trying to cope, need buddies.

Ive had prostate cancer and lung cancer for many years, and have had many different treatments, as one stopped working I was started on another.  Finally I was put on Abiraterone, unforntunatelly this stopped working in November last year, the doctor said My liver was full of cancer, and told chemotherappy would be too callenging for me, and was put on steriods, and told I had months to live rather than years, I am a 77 year old male.I was told I could change my mind and go for chemo, but it would be a long journey, and I might only live a couple of months after it was completed, but Im thinking a slim chance is better than no chance., in December my PSA had hardly changed. I think it whent from 200 to 207  my Liver was sill fuctioning, I Would appreciate any help and advice on this.????

  • Hi, this is a difficult decision for you to make and I know most people would opt for the chemo.   You will have to weigh up the side effects of chemo against your quality of life and will the treatment be worth it.  No-one can answer this, and we must all make our own decisions, hard as they may be.  are you in pain or discomfort at the moment or is your quality of life compromised by the cancer?  If not,  then my personal opinion would be to leave well alone but if having chemo would give you more confidence in the future then try it.  You can stop it at any time if you find it too much.

With my very best wishes to you.

  • Thank you Pauline, I really appreciate your reply. Im not one to give in easily. With my medication I can deal with the pain I get, the problem being I get a lot of constipation from the pain killers, I have to take. I beleive that all of these cause this condition except one I cant think of its name excect it begins with the letter T will find this out and ask the doctor for more informatiom. Again, thank you for your reply.

  • Hi, I take a lot of painkillers too and suffer dreadful constipation - having spoken to others on here it seems to be a problem for a great many of us.  If you have chemo I don't think this will help the constipation, probably wuite the opposite.  Maybe you could ask the doctor when you see him again.  Let us know.
