Triple negative breast cancer. Chemo or not ?

Hi I'm 32 I was diagnosed with triple nagative breast cancer in October last year I have had a lumpectomy. Got all my results the lump was 6mm contained to the one place not in my lymph nodes or anything. Before I had the op o start chemo on had one lot of 2 different treatments. After an infection I have the op. This week I have been told the oncologist would like me to have another 5 rounds of chemo every 3 weeks. I'm really unsure if to have the treatment or just the radiotherapy she has given me 2 weeks to think about it and says it's my choice.

  • Hi,

of course it's a very personal choice. Your tumour was very small and thank goodness you have clear nodes.

I did have chemotherapy, what swung it for me was when my onco said they couldn't rule out stray microscopic cells.....

I hope you can come to a decision that suits you...xxxx

  • Hi, this is a very personal decision and everything is very overwhelming and frightening especially in the beginning, my advice would be to have faith in what your drs say is the best treatment for you and go with it, they know what they are doing....the problem with cancers like this are possible  microcells which can have spread in the body even before breast cancer is diagnosed, they are so tiny that  they cannot be picked up or seen  by tests and unfortunately if they are not eradicated they can cause a recurrance of cancer somewhere else in the body, even many years later! in someone so young the goal is to kill off all these cancer cells with chemo and therefore reduce the risk of recurrance in the future, and ensure a long and cancer free life....for me this would be the only way to go, personally i could not live with  the risk........chemo is certainly not easy or pleasant, but it does save lives and its only a chapter in the book and a temporary thing.....i hope you make the right decision for you and all the best for your future.xxx
