Traart

Hi my mum has had Myeloma for the past 8 years and is currently on a treatment that seems to really work for her.

She told me last night that she can't take the bone strengthener anymore but has enough in her system to do her for a year. Does anyone know what happens if she can't take the bone strengthener anymore? At the minute if she does take it she will get kidney failure according to the doctors but she hasn't said anything else.

  • Hi,

I've had myeloma for 4 years now and had the bone strengthener for 2 years, which I believe is the recommended max. I can tell that my bones are stronger now.

As I understand it, it stays in the body for years and activates as and when a lesion occurs. (I may of course be entirely wrong)

If it's become dangerous for your mum's kidneys, it would seem the risks outweigh any benefits of taking it. If it were me, I'd be more than happy to stop taking it as dyalisis is the last thing I want.

Wish you and your mum all the best

    Regards

    Taff

  • Thank you. That makes a lot of sense. I can't get in to her appointments as she lives in South of Ireland and I'm in the North..was having all.sorts of worries in my head.

Thank you and all.thw best with your treatment also.
