Hi Stokemale.

Life really hands out the short straws doesnt it!

The thought that they may carry on cutting away is not what you want to hear. I know I was shocked at how much they cut away on me at my op.

Hopefully as time goes by you will dwell less on all this and get back to living a life without the stress.

We are always around pop in a let us know how things are going with you.

Wishing you all the very best and hope you keep well. xx

Hi Stokemale,

This is certainly not the news that we wanted to hear, but I'm glad that it is tinged with good news too.  It's great to hear that there is no progression of the tissue taken into cancerous cells.

I myself have been in your position, admittedly with a different type of cancer, but know how I felt when it recurred a year later, due to suspect margins.

Do please keep us in the loop with any updates and remember, that we are always here for you.

Here's hoping and praying that you will have better news in 6 weeks!

Kind regards,

Jolamine xx

Hi all. Having  a tongue biopsy next Tuesday because of an odd painless swelling that appeared on the left of my tongue a few months back. The only time it would hurt was when I'd catch it between my teeth whilst talking/eating

The swelling has largely subsided now but an odd painless white area is now smack in the middle of where the swelling was, so the doc who saw me two weeks ago put me forward for a biopsy 'better to be safe than sorry'

If pics are allowed I'll show you a few snaps of the intial swelling and the resulting white area. Not sure about the posting etiquette here.

Anyway will let you know how it goes. Some of the earlier posts about how painful these can be are not exactly making me look forward to it!

Hi Klopptastic

Im not too sure about pics being allowed.

Can I say sorry you find yourself in this position. Its such a horrible time waiting to find out.

Some folks find the biopsy ok others not. I had tongue biopsy then later had a palate biopsy I found the palate one much worse as it cant be stitched so takes longer to heal, and the electrocautery gives you quite a thump.

There are a few of us on here so anything you want to ask just feel free to do so.

Thanks Clara. A mod was very quick to email me that no pics are allowed.

I'll let you know how it goes pain wise and results wise. I'm sure it's nothing because of how fit and healthy I am at the moment.

Had the biopsy today and it was surprisingly painless

Hardly felt the injection at all and the surgery itself was just a minor bit of a pulling sensation as he cut the sample out of my tongue. HUGE swelling though which has since subsided. Freaked the wife and daughter out those pics did. lol

Couple of odd things though. The stiches have come out already. In fact they were gone less than 4 hours after the procedure. No blood at all, and the swelling now just resembles how it was when I first noticed it a few months back. I think all we've succeeded doing is making ''it'' angry! :-). Is a bit tender now, obviously but nothing major.

Next appointment is in 6-8 weeks, and hopefully that'll just be a routine all clear chat.

Hi Klopptastic

Good to hear it has gone well. Apart from losing your stitches tho. This is quite common for some folk I think if its a shallow biopsy the stitches are quite easy to fall out. Mine took weeks Dr dragged the last couple out so he could see the tumour better.

Remember to keep your mouth well rinsed with warm salty water it does help to heal and sooth.

I may well be facing further biopsies in near future. And I thought I was done with all that.

You may find it gets a bit sore tomorrow but maybe not. I found a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen the best. So long as you have no medical reasons not to of course.

Youre next appt a bit away, but you seem quite relaxed,be sure to stay that way.

Keep in touch. All the best.x

Hi Klopptastic,

I had my biopsy for White spot on side of my tongue on 29th April, my follow up appointment was booked for 4th of June, they called me within 7 days as the results were abnormal & in for op 7 days after that. You can see my progress on previous pages. I too didn't have any major issues with the biopsy but the initial swelling straight after the op scared the hell out of me but subsided within hours felt like I'd bit my tongue for a few days but normal pain relief definitely helped. It's been 6 weeks or so since my op, I'm in this Fri for my follow up appointment, hope all goes well for you keep us all posted.

Morning all,

Thanks for your thoughts, I feel really good in myself & have tried to put all negative thoughts to the back of my mind, I think the old saying is true 'time is a healer initially I thought my world was going to collapse but as time has gone by things have got better. My wound healed really well to the point it's barely visible, I still have a small amount of numbness as a daily reminder but it doesn't bother me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Friday also & taking each appointment 1 step at a time, take care all x

Hiya Clara and Stokemale. No soreness at all today. It is almost as if yesterday didn't happen. Very odd. Drinking coffee, eating what I want, no pain WHATSOEVER from tongue. It is now exactly as it was when this all started. Worrying me slightly because I was inwardly bracing for the natural pain of a wound and stitches but nothing at all.

I think my follow up appointment has been auto generated for Sep 10th as had text today confirming it. On holidays then though so asked for different date.

Will keep you updated either way as I do think it's important people see the good news as well as the bad especially on forums like this. Hopefully mine will be good.

Hi all,

I forgot to post following my appointment the other Friday as I flew out to Turkey for 2 weeks that night, currently still there but just lounging around & thought it'd be good time to catch up.

Saw consultant for my 6 week check following op. & he was really happy with how wound healing, I was a bit taken shocked when he told me he would see how things develop over next 3 months then get me booked in for another op! I kind of expected that as cells had progressed into healthy tissue something would happen 1 day but not so soon. He did kind of joke with me that they wouldn't be so brutal next time to lighten the mood which I suppose is a good thing, so 3 month wait then see what happens, take care, catch you all soon.
