Tongue biopsy

Hey all hi!

so long story short, I think I bit my tongue but couldn't be 100%. I noticed my tongue bleeding while I ate. Checked it and I can only explain it by well it looked scratched on the side. Anyway so it went through like a bleedy stage and then healed up but now I have a like bumpy red but on the side of my tongue.

I went to the drs and they said leave it for 10 days and if still there go back. So getting a drs appointment is super hard atm. I rang them today and then I get a message about going for a biopsy.
the dr wasn't to concerned when he had a look at it but obviously the next stage is a biopsy.

So I'm freaking out a bit now but also glad that I'm getting one at the same time.
im 37, never smoked, not a drinker and no symptoms like swollen lymph nodes, limp in throat etc.

im not sure what I'm hoping for writing here but I guess it's to stop me freaking out so much and hoping for some similar stories? Thanks everyone.

oh also scar/bump thing doesn't hurt and has stayed the same shape and size for 3 weeks. X

  • Hello Chipychips

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for a biopsy on your tongue at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and may have some questions about the upcoming appointment/procedure.

It's good to hear that your GP didn't have any initial concerns but it sounds like they're being thorough in referring you to the specialist so hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the appointment.

We know that waiting for appointments, tests and results can be a really difficult time for many people. Sometimes it can help to talk about how you're feeling and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat with our team of nurses. I'm sure they will gladly offer any advice and support they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
