TNBC diagnosis

Hi Everyone , I'm Rosie

I'm not usually good at these types of forums....not technically minded.

I am 58 year old and found a lump in my right breast at Christmas .  I acted immediately.  I have just received mind blowing diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer early stage, and told chemotherapy to blast the 2" tumour will start next week, and I will loose my hair

I feel as if I have been given a death sentence and can't stop crying.

Looking for support and reassurance.

  • Hi Rosie

I'm so sorry you find yourself here, it's such a massive shock when you hear those words isn't it.

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at the end of May 2020. Like you I had chemotherapy first as I had 2 separate lumps both confirmed to be cancer. I finished my Chemo in December and have just had my surgery 2 weeks ago today.

The fact that you acted on it straight away and it's early stage should give you big reassurance.

The chemotherapy for me wasn't too bad, I did lose my hair but I felt very lucky to not have any really bad side effects so I kind of thought I'll take the hair loss. I also tried to think of it like.. I've got side effects because that nasty little thing is being blasted away not because I'm not well so if it needs to batter me a bit while it's doing it then it can.

I hope your ok. I know it sounds easier said then done but try to stay as positive as you can, it is what will get you through this.

im here if you need to talk or want any advice

    big hugs

    Sarah xx

  • Hi

Thank you Sarah for responding.  It meant so much. If you were standing in front of me I would have hugged you.

Hubby and I went for a long walk and talk and I did feel a little better.

My other news today was that my lymph nodes are clear, and that the cancer does not appear to have spread anywhere else, just a lump in the breast.  Oncology at 9.00 Monday.

How are you feeling now after surgery?  Was it a lumpectomy?

Sorry for the questions Sarah, but although hubby is very, very supportive I feel I need to talk to another woman - if that makes sense.

Thank you again for taking the time.

    Rosie xx

  • Hey Rosie,

I'm newly diagnosed tnbc stage 1 too, they told me xmas eve.

Have they suggested cold capping to you?

I've had one chemo so far and it was bearable.. maybe something to consider! :)

    Victoria

  • Aah I'll take a virtual hug :) that's great news that everywhere is clear! :)

it totally makes sense. You can ask me as many questions as you want to :)  I have the most amazing support from my husband, family and friends too but sometimes it's so good to talk to someone who has been there and just knows.

I had a full Mastectomy with reconstruction as there were two lumps so it was safer just to get rid of the whole thing. I'm still a bit sore but getting better by the day. I took my dressings off a few days ago and to be fair my new one is a much better shape than my other so I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do something to that one now lol. I see the surgoen on Friday and then I'm having some radiotherapy in around 4 weeks so will be referred back to the oncologist to start planning that.

As Victoria said ask the oncologist about the cold cap. I didn't have the option of using it because it Covid but they had started it back up again before I finished my treatment so definitely worth looking into

hope your ok, speak to you soon xx

  • Hi Victoria

    Thanks for replying.

I had a really bad day yesterday, but Saraheileen boosted me more than she will ever know

Cold cap hasn't been discussed yet, maybe at Oncology on Monday. TBH loosing my hair isn't really bothering me, I said to hubby that I would think that my hair falling out is the tumour leaving my system. Crazy I know.

How was your chemo? How often are you going?

  • Aah I'm so glad I helped and made you feel better Rosie

I had the same thoughts as you with the hair loss as my first treatment didn't seem to give me many side effects at all at first only mainly when I had another drug added it in every third week so when my hair started falling out I felt slight relief that it meant that the treatment was actually working in my body. I did get a wig but only wore it twice as preferred head dresses that I got from Amazon. I bought different colours so I could mix and match with my clothes and always felt nice in them. I even went out a few times with nothing on (first was a trip to Aldi) lol and I just thought If I can go out in public with a bald head I will never worry ever again what I look like or what people think :)

Thank  you for the good luck :) I had a CT scan after my treatment just before Christmas and my surgeon said it looked like those little buggers had took quite a beating so fingers crossed there won't of been much left in there! I'll let you know how I get on ... I'm with you .. we will all beat this! it's definitely picked the wrong people to mess with!! :)

    xx

  • Hi Ruth

I had cysts in r breast and aspirated at breast clinic about 2.5 years ago.  We don't have kids either I had a hysterectomy years ago, also no history of breast cancer. I regularly check myself in the shower..found a lump and GP said probably cyst, but referred to  the hospital....so I acted straight away.

Diagnosis is tnbc, her2 negative, lymph nodes are clear, I didn't have any other symptoms.

I had a bad day yesterday probably still in shock as I have only just had my diagnosis , came on here and now I feel so positive knowing I'm not alone.  I've got Oncology on Monday morning.

    We'll get through this

  • Hi

You look good in your photo, love your headscarf.

I said to my brother that hubby and I will look like twins from the back (about same height & shape) and no hair

Oh! I'll keep everything crossed for you for good news about those little beggars  to be well on their way......forever.
