Time to exercise the old muscles

I got up about 8 this morning and was pottering about the house and noticed I had a gym card so I thought well I better use it . I will go for a hour later maybe take a run on the treadmill if that's even possible at 73 lol. I haven't  really tried to work out in ages so I wonder how my body will be. Also my eating needs to improve I find my self driving to take away shops and that's really not good for your health. I need to put some healthy weight back on. I'm just down to 1day of chemo which must be good and that's a Wednesday. I feel good when I want to put my life back on the tracks. And all this thought from a gym card at 8 in the morning lol

    I was supposed to have gone to a cancer charity committee meeting this morning where they were discusing exercise for cancer patients including walks ect; but due to the cold I've had over Christmas, i decided not to go as I didnt want anyone to catch this cold. I have read that just gentle excercise helps a person recover more quickly after having had cancer so I was very dissapionted to have missed this meeting. I will be sent the minutes but its not the same as being there where you can add your thoughts.

  • Hi Brian, well I have just got back from the gym I actually went with my daughter in law and I went on the treadmill etc and I found I needed to build my stamina up rather than jump on the running machine and take of like a nimbus 2000. So yeah me and my daughter in law just took our time got round a few things and felt quite good at the end. And then went for a healthy lunch so had quite a good morning and early afternoon.

    Now I'm just going to do some cleaning and have a relaxing day ahead. I'll maybe do some gardening and the grandchildren are coming round later so pick there dinner out.

  • Can I suggest you try the step machine / cross trainer

    In the past I've always found treadmills hard on my joints - especially my hips and ankles so I tend to use the cross trainer which seems gentler on my joints.

     

     

     

  • Hi GrahamM yeah i did find the treadmill hard on my joints as i do have arthritis in places. When running i just could not stay on for long with out feeling sore a heavy feeling. At my age my hips are so stiff when i get down on the floor to get something it takes me forever to get back up lol, But other than the treadmill i did feel better. When i made that message i didnt feel sore yet. But im feeling the affects now.-Diane
