    Hi Lvs,

I am so sorry to hear about the recurrence of your mum's breast cancer. i was 61 when I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer 8 years ago. There was no lymph node involvment. I had a lumpectomy, followed by Tamoxifen. The following year I discovered another lump in the same breast. I had a double mastectomy, followed by Letrozole. I took this for 6 years and stopped taking it in July 2017.

I am not a doctor, but I presume that her care team are advising a mastectomy in her remaining breast? To be honest, I feel happier after the double mastectomy as opposed to the lumpectomy. I feel that I have removed as much as I possibly could this time.

I'm sure that your mum will soon feel the same. I can understand why you are worried, but it is a very straightforward procedure. My mother died from secondary breast cancer 21 years ago. My daughter and I discussed the possibility of getting tested, but decided against it.

Please let us know when your mum gets a date for surgery. I hope that it all goes well this time. We are always here for you both.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
