Terminal with Primary Kidney & Secondary Bone

Hi there just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the above. The story so far.....my dad (61) has recently been give a prognosis of between 6months and two years. The consultant gave this news after looking at scans, he says there is no cure and that medication would be to try and slow it down, bascically the damage has been done (around his ribs lower back). The consultant then went on to say he would organise a biopsy, this is where I am confused....why tell us there is basically nothing that can be done and give us a prognosis before the biopsy and results are known? Any advise, help or inspirational stories of prognosis being wrong would be great. Thanks

  • Hello 1978MM,

I see that you've had a reply from Nurse Naomi, but I also just wanted to stop by to welcome you to Cancer Chat, and hopefully link you to some other people who will know just what you're going through.

Another new member [@Jenrose]‍ posted earlier this month about their dad having a terminal kidney diagnosis - you can find her conversation here: My dad is terminal. Please do feel free to join in the discussion if you feel able to.

I also wanted to mention that we have a Caring for someone with cancer section of the forum, where you can get support from others there, too.

I hope you find the forum helpful; wishing you all the best,
