Terminal

recently told that currently there is no treatment available. Fine. I'm on borrowed time anyway but what I need to know is that how does dying from lung cancer feel/look like. Need to prepare myself and family

  • Hi Katel,

Welcome to the forum. What exactly have you been told about your condition and your prognosis? Is there no available treatment at all, or is only palliative treatment available? I know next to nothing about lung cancer, but I do have an incurable and inoperable cancer and I was only offered palliative treatment, to help slow down the growth and manage the symptoms.

If you are approaching the end, it might be worth arranging to visit your local hospice to ask this question of the staff there. They will have had more experience in end of life care and will be able to tell you just what to expect, though I guess everyone's experience is an individual one. You might want to give the nurses on here a ring too.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Good evening Katel,

I am most sorry to read your heartbreaking news, I cannot begin to imagine how heartbroken you must feel inside right now as you begin to struggle processing what is due to happen to you, I am a carer for someone who's recently been diagnosed with Colon Cancer, so I am no specialist in the subject but if you care to hear me out, I have the following to say:

Look at yourself in a mirror, say to yourself "I've lived a good life surrounded by a truly loving, caring and acceptive family, I have no regrets -  (highlight your favourite memories you've lived to experience, embrace them and smile if you can) - perhaps there's a few things on your list in terms of adventures you still wish to travel such as riding a horse with an ice cream cone listening to your favourite music outloud, things like that will help your loved ones remember you with.

I hope this information comes to you as helpful, I wish you all the very best.

    Warmest Regards,

    Sarah, Carer
