Tamoxifen:-(

Hello,

I’ve come in for a moan.

I started taking tamoxifen almost two weeks ago now, the last couple of days I have been hit with unbearable tiredness, I feel as tired when I get up as when I went to bed.

Radiotherapy starts next week so I know the tiredness may get worse, I’ve just booked a holiday to fly out the day after my radiotherapy finishes, I hope I’m not too tired to enjoy it, I feel we just all need to get away and relax.

Sorry for moaning but I think my husband is bored of listening to me and a lot of my so called friends have deserted me since my diagnosis.

Moan over, thanks for listening x

  • Hi ploppy haven't heard from you for a while the good and the bad has been ever so quiet without you moan all you like this is the place, hope you have a good holiday tell us all about it when you come back we like to be jealous, God bless.

    Billy

  • Hi ploppy ...

You come on and have a vent as much as you like ... it's a great place to get everything off your chest now ...

I was so emotional on tamoxifen.. I went from a strong lass to a quivering wreck ... crying at everything .. it was a nightmare ... didn't have a clue why till I asked on here .. loads have side effects from it .. emotions / aching / tiredness ...

I got mine sorted after a few weeks and it gradually settled down .. been on it 18 months now and no problems ...

You know lots of us on here have found we find out who really cares when you go through cancer .. some you think are close and don't come near .. others not so close turn out true friends ... so at least we know who to help when they need it .. l just carried on and those that wernt there for me.. I turned away and they mean nothing now...

And yes those close sometimes get fed up with everything to do with cancer ... as it takes over our lives ..and they need a break .. unfortunately we can't have a break ... so you come here as much as you need .. you'll always find someone to have a vent with you ...

Fingers crossed your radiotherapy goes well .. some breeze through it .. my untie did .. some get tired a lot ... everyone is different ... so go with the flow .. and listen to your body when it needs rest ..

    Chrissie xx

  • Thanks Billygoat and Chriss,

Thanks for letting me moan, had a pretty good day today, got loads of work done without needing a snooze ;-)

Had a call from the hospital to say my doctor has confirmed I just need 15 sessions of radiotherapy and not 20 so very pleased with that, means I finish on the Friday and go on holiday on the Saturday which will be great.

I’ve been told I’m cancer free, does that mean I’m cured or in remission, it’s all very surreal, less than 2 months ago I was told I had cancer and now I don’t, don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining but it does put your head in a bit of a spin.

Hope you’ve both had good days x

  • Hi ploppy i personally would class it as in remission because you're still having treatment to fight it you could still have some C sells in your body that's why you have the treatment to go hopefully it will get rid of them,. Hope i haven't worried you., best wishes.

    Billy

  • Hi Billy,

No you haven’t worried me, I just wasn’t really sure what to call it really.

Fingers crossed it doesn’t come back, but hey, who knows, no point worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet :-)

  • I no this feeling hun I'm in same boat I'm just not sleeping at all I'm hoping to start radiotherapy soon too ....I hope u enjoy yr holiday u deserve it

  • Hi Anna,

sorry to hear you are struggling, I have good news, I’ve been on tamoxifen just over 5 weeks now and happy to report that the tiredness has eased, I’m in my last week of radiotherapy and that has been absolutely fine. If I take tamoxifen early morning I am sleeping well at night now. One day I had to take it late afternoon due to the chemist mucking up my prescription, and the next day I couldn’t even speak I was that tired.

Do you know when you start your radiotherapy, how many sessions? I’m only having 15, due to finish Friday, can’t wait, not because of the treatment just because I’m sick of going to the hospital every day.

Fingers crosses your tiredness eases, good luck with your radiotherapy x

  • Thanks for replying I've been taking it at night I mite try it in a morning and see if it makes a difference...so glad to hear your nearly done I'm also having 15 sessions hoping to start soon I have to wait to see if I need further surgery to do shavings xx

  • Hi Anna, definitely try it in the morning, by about 10pm I’m shattered and sleep like a baby.

Fingers crossed you don’t need anymore surgery, when will you find out?

    X
