Swollen lymph node, full feeling in neck and blocked ear

Hi there ,

I wondered if anyone had had a similar experience to me and could possibly help? I've had a swollen lymph node in the right side of my neck for the past 3/4 months. Mentioned it at the GP back in October but told not to worry. Since around 5 weeks ago I've noticed a really full feeling on the right side of the neck, the lymph node does not feel bigger in itself but feels like it's protruding more with something else. I've also started having consistent ear ache on the same side, with a real fullness in the ear. I'm a nurse (paediatric ED not ENT haha) so I've had one of the ED doctors at work look in my ear and he said I have a bulging ear drum so just to wait it out but that was 4 weeks ago and it's getting worse! Amoxicillin has done nothing at all so it doesn't seem to be from an infection. I had some bloods done today and I've been referred for an ultrasound in 2 weeks time but I'm terrified. Google keeps telling me the big C word! I've had one tonsil larger than the other for the past couple of years on the same side so I'm wondering if it's inflamed. I'm constantly super tired but I write that off to work and motherhood when really I've perhaps been much more tired than I should be. I've also noticed that when I breathe through the right nostril it feels blocked but the other side is clear. Other than that I haven't lost weight, don't have any pain anywhere else and feel okay.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

TIA

  • Hello, I noticed a lump on my neck between my hair line around 4-5 weeks ago. I have a scan in a couple of weeks. Mine is around 5cm big. It grew very quickly in fact it was quite large when I first noticed it. It's painless and unmovable but sometimes feels more swollen than other times. I have a swollen feeling inside one of my ears on the same side as the lump yet no infection or wax.... I get dizzy spells and vertigo pretty badly. I'm very worried too. I hope your okay. Please let me know how your scan goes!

  • Hello TIA,

I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. I am a nurse too, and unfortunately, mine is a lump in my breast, which I found out 4 weeks ago.

I don't have much to say about your experience because it's different from mine.

But take things one step at a time and let's hope it's not the C-word. You are not alone, and you will get through this.

    Stay positive and be strong.

    Ade

  • Hey, I have a lump behind my ear and have done since I was a young child. I know the scenario isn't exactly similar however my parents were worried about it being cancer so they checked it out. Luckily, it wasn't, however I became prone to ear infections and things like that for quite a few years growing up until I presume about 8 years old. It had caused swelling and my ear was blocked a lot but by the age of about 10 I was completely fine. I'm 17 now and still here so glad it wasn't harmful. As I said, our scenarios aren't the same however symptoms are similar. I live by always preparing for the worst just so I keep a positive mindset without having to worry. Hopefully things all go well with you and your results!

    Wish you the best,

    MM

  • Crossing my fingers that all works out okay for you too!

  • Hey I just wanted to reply to say that I am pretty much going through something identical to you, apart from they think all my neck lumps and bumps and due to me having acid reflux and potentially inflamed intestines.

I have the fullness in the right side of neck/throat, blocked ear feeling and stuffy nose in the right nostril.
it's like reading a post of the same person!

ive had an ultrasound and they found reactive lymph nodes. And I told them that the lumps have been there for about 3/4 months now but they said it may be because of my stomach etc. I have like a small growth on the back of my tongue but my GP wasn't concerned. And I had the ENT department call and put me on gastro resistant tablets for 8 weeks.

so little bit lost and scared incase things have been missed although I am hoping yours gets sorted quickly for you and you feel better soon!

How are you feeling in yourself?

Take care and speak soon x

  • Just feeling a bit more tired than usual! Other than that I'm just trying to push through but it's just so uncomfortable and I'm worried that if something is wrong then they're missing it. I know being anxious isn't helping but it's a very painful and physical feeling so you can't help but worry can you! My blood results all came back normal, just waiting for my ultrasound now. Fingers crossed all is ok! I hope they get to the bottom of it for you! I'll keep you updated on mine :) x

  • Hello

hope you don't mind commenting on your post months later but I've been on google as I am experiencing such similar symptoms to yourself and I was wondering if you ever got anywhere with it all??

I also had a small bump inside my mouth towards the back, gp wasn't concerned but has referred my to oral specialist anyway just because I said I think it's been there longer than the 2 week mark.

I have had a swollen gland on one side not to big for a week or so and then today I've started getting a fullness in my ear like it's blocked I've tried saline Sprays it helps a little but then goes back to being blocked.

I also started gastro tablets 3 weeks ago and I started having a burning feeling in throat and burping a lot, the tablets have helped with both symptoms currently still on them.

ive got antibiotics I started last week for the gland swelling but it hasn't really made any difference

I'm going for a private ultrasound tomorrow for my gland and I'm waiting for referral for the bump in mouth

all symptoms very similar to yourself but they all seem to be so random I'm going out of my mind thinking it's cancer that's spread to all the different areas

the only positive thing is I only had a full blood count 2 weeks ago and that was all ok so surely if I had any lymponia it would of showed on the red and white blood count?

if anyone has any similar experiences and has had positive outcomes would make me feel abit better!

im only 29 with 2 young children all I can think of if leaving them behind if anything happens to me

  • Hi, I'm having the same symptoms, how are you now?

  • Hi, I came here from googling the same symptoms. Had swelling on one side for about 2 months and then only recently had fullness in the ear that is the same side of the swelling on my neck. Started with swollen lymph nodes under my jaw. Got a telephone GP appointment for Saturday, will try and update here when I've spoken to them.

Beat of luck and hope it's nothing serious for you.

  • Hi I've recently got the same symptoms as ur describing, did you ever hear anything back? Is it worth a GP appointment
