Suspicious mole - appointment wait times

Hi Everyone, 

 

I went to my GP at the start of September who wanted me to have a mole removed, so referred me under the 2 week rule, and have since had a telephone appointment with the hospital specialist who agreed that it needs removing. I am now worried as I still haven't had any idea of when this appointment can happen (obviously I knew it would take longer with Covid), and I have about 3-4 moles that I'm also concerned about but my GP said they all need to be checked when I see the specialist. I have a family history of skin cancer and have had a couple of moles removed in the past (both came back okay) which is definitely adding to my concerns! I have tried calling the booking department who have said I'm on a waitlist. 

 

Does anybody have any experience with wait times for this procedure in Covid times?

    Hello Katieb93, 

    You've totally done the right thing by calling the booking department just to make sure you were still on the waiting list. It does sound like a lot of things have been affected by the covid pandemic and caused delays. I do hope though that you get an appointment soon. Did they have any idea when you spoke to them at the booking department as to when this appointment might be? I hope that you find out soon. If you are worried, do give your GP a call and mention that you are worried about this especially since there are those other suspicious moles you are concerned about. It might be worth talking things through with your doctor. I am sure they will be able to give you some reassurance or some advice on how to proceed.

    Thanks for your reply! I was about to give my GP a call today as you suggested, when the hospital called and offered me an appointment for December 17th. So relieved to finally have a date!
