Surgery options

Hi

ive been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2. Had ultrasound and two biopsies. They want to do surgery but want a mammogram first to determine exact size . It looks 2cm on ultrasound but they say they need to be more accurate.

They also say they will remove nipple which I am horrified about. I’ve seen ladies have nipples re-positioned in breast reduction operations so wondering whey they can’t do this for me? Is it a mater of skill? If so then why not use a more skilled surgeon . I’m going to be asking for a second opinion, they’ve already mentioned that I can do this . Has anyone else had this specific issue please?

  • Hi there ...

So sorry you are going through this ... I think the scariest part of this journey is the waiting ...

I had a total right mastectomy July last year ... and I had a grade 3 ... I look at my scar now, and it just makes me feel greatfull I'm still here and doing good .. but I know so many find this traumatic .... and the only thing I can help with is I have heard others who lost their nipple got a tattoo of one a bit down the line when they'd healed and everything had settled ... they were all pleased with the outcome ...

It's just a little option ... big vertual hug ....Chrissie x

  • So sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I can’t offer any advice as not been where you are. What I did want to say is, I went away recently which a bunch of girls. One was topless on the beach. She’d asked what her boob looked like.... which was an odd question! Turns out she’d had half her nipple removed, the rest was tattooed on! Looked awesome, couldn’t tell at all. So, worst case your nipple can’t be saved, there are other things. Honestly, it looked so good.

In an ideal world you’d keep your nipple, so I don’t know if that’s a comfort to you. Just wanted to let you know how realistic they can look, as I wouldn’t have known.

Good of luck with your treatment, wishing you a fast recovery x
