i am a Marie Curie nurse and yes we would sit with your dad through the night if he as a terminal diagnosis. You cannot refer yourself as all referrals have to be done through your district nurse.

I've been on here awhile now .. l learned a bit on Marie Currie home page. . But if this pops up again, can you tell me how they get in touch with a district nurse , do they have one asigned on a terminal diagnosis ... if they don't, can they get one through their G Ps ...

Any info you have will be invaluable... l think Marie Currie nurses are amazing and it's so good to know they have somewhere to turn in that time ... there's been quite a few who are struggling with end of life care and respite ... the info I have is very limited ..

So sorry to read about your situation - it makes me so cross when people aren’t signposted to the available services at the most appropriate time. Your GP should have referred your Dad to the Community:District Nursing team, to MacMillan or your local equivalent AND to Marie Curie. Of course, it may be that they tried to but your Dad turned them down ... that happens too.

Hi Chrissie, the referral has gone through today by the distrtict nurses for marie curie for some sit ins. last night was the worst yet. Dad woke up at 7pm highly agitated kicking and trying to bite us for 2 hours. We had to call the district nurses at midnight, who came and  gave midazolam, which took from 12 midnight till 3.30 am for him to fall asleep.     They have today ordered a syringe driver but im not sure im ready for this as my dad has times in the day where we do still sit and chat,not all making sense, but some does, but its now the devil and the deep blue sea, anticipating agitation and having quality time . xx

Has he got any sleeping tables ... I'm sure the Dr could give him some to help him which will then help you ... the driver may make him less anxious...would they be able to lessen it in the day ... I'm just clutching at straws ...  l so wish I had a magic wand ... 

Hope Marie Currie come through for some nights soon ... think you need a brake ... if they do come .. try and get as much rest as possible ... thinking of you ...  Chrissie xx
