Still waiting for a CT colon with contrast result

My GP suspected that I might have colon cancer because my FIT test result was positive. She then referred me for a CT or CT colon with contrast on November 25 last month which I'm still waiting for the result. I then called my GP today chasing the result. They then booked a telephone appointment for me on December 17 to discuss the result with a GP who referred me for the scan. I also called the hospital where I went for the scan and was told a Colorectal Cancer surgeon will call me himself on December 12 to tell me the result of my scan as well.

So, does that mean I have cancer if the sergeon will call me himself to discuss the test result?

I'm just so worried that I might have colon cancer since I am 51 years old and a woman. So, my chance of colon cancer is high. Some of my symptoms are also similar to colon cancer symptoms.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I thank you in advance.

  • Welcome to the forum wantanswer although I'm sorry for the worry and confusion that has understandably come about from being booked in for two separate appointments to discuss the same results.

Hopefully some of our members who may have found themselves in a similar situation will share their experiences and insight with you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Waiting for results is always tough but we're here for you wantanswer and will have our fingers crossed for good news on the 12th.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you very much for your response and support. I have also already talked to the nurses from the phone number you have added in your reply. They just tell me the same thing that a positive FIT test result doesn't always mean cancer. It could be something else.

I don't feel sick either. I eat and sleep normally, don't lose weight, don't feel tired and the like. Only 2-3  symptoms that are similar to colon cancer symptoms: blood in my poop that can't see with the naked eye, constipation and a slightly dull chest pain that comes and go. Other than that I feel completely normal.

But it could also be an early stage colon cancer. Who knows. But I don't want to think negatively about it that much. I just wait for the answer on Monday, and that's it. It's just the waiting that makes me anxious and nervous. I just want to know the answer right here right now for the piece of mind.

Once again, thanks for your answer and support.
