Stage two lung cancer

Hi, my mom has been diagnosed with at least stage two lung cancer with at least one node involved. I wondered if anyone can tell me anything about the further tests involved & also what the steps to treatment are? She was diagnosed from a chest X-ray and a CT scan of the lungs & liver with contrast. We see the consultant tomorrow to see what happens next but I'm concerned she won't be fit enough for surgery. It is in the upper left lobe of the left lung which is collapsed. She has Copd & is constantly exhausted & is struggling to breathe. I'm a student radiotherapy radiographer so I know that lung cancer is often terminal. I think I just need to know where we stand so I can start putting things in place to care for her. Thanks in advance, Paula x

  • Hello Paula,

I thought I would come and bump your thread back to the top so that others here who have had lung cancer can pick up your post and share their treatment experiences with you.

How did the appointment with the consultant go? What did he or she say about the next steps to take?

We have some in depth information on our site about lung cancer here. It includes details on diagnosing lung cancer and on the different treatment options.

You are bound to have lots of questions racing through your head after seeing the consultant. So don't hesitate to ask them here on the forum at any time. You can also ring our nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and there is also an Ask the Nurses topic area on the forum.

    Best wishes,
