Stage 4 small cell lung cancer metastised to the the liver

What a rocky road this is. I feel like my whole world has been turned upside down this last few weeks. My dad (age 65)was only diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with small cell lung cancer that has also spread to the liver. He has had his first lot of chemotherapy and the second lot is due in just under a fortnight. He’s been really unwell for weeks in and out of hospital, thought he was suffering from low sodium, he had a huge seizure and ended up in intensive care in an induced coma, scan after scan no one could figure out what was wrong, they then did an ultrasound and found a shadow on his liver, which is when they discovered he had cancer. He has lost so much weight in such a short time, I feel so sad, he’s my rock, he always has been, I’ve been a real daddy’s girl since I can remember. No one seems to want to give us an idea of time, it sounds awful but Mum and I feel we need to be prepared for whatever comes. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Feel so lost and helpless. Thankyou

  • Hi Steph, I'm so sorry to hear this, it must be emotionally draining for you and your mum and just waiting to know what happens next is incredibly difficult. I hope your dad's medical team will soon be able to give you more of an idea of your dad's prognosis but in the meantime,  If it helps to talk things through, do give our specialist helpline nurses a call. They are around Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they may be able to guide you. Their number is free if you live in the UK 0808 800 4040.

I know there are others here who have been in a similar situation and I hope they'll come along and share their experience with you and give you the support you need at this difficult time.

    With very best wishes
