Sore mouth with chemo?

Hiya all

I've noticed 3 days after my chemo day I start getting a horrendously sore mouth. It lasts about 4 days and then picks up and gets better. I've only had it happen twice as I'm still early days on my chemo but am going to assume this will be the pattern for me moving forward. I'm resigned to solero ice lolloies and not a whole lot else. Anyone got any tips?

They gave me difflam mouth wash but it's almost as bad as having the sore mouth tbh- everything is just sore and numb!

  • I found that gargling with salted water on a regular basis really helped my sore mouth

  • I used to gargle with the purple 6 in 1 Listerine morning and night plus one of my nurses suggested taking piriton syrup and this really helped.

  • Hi

I too had a sore mouth after FEC chemo for breast cancer.. I found a mild mouth wash without alcohol was the best.  Also I found toothpaste too strong and it would make my mouth burn so I used the toothpaste I keep for the grandchildren.  I'll probably look for a mouthwash for children next time I have chemo ( a weeks time) although a different chemo so maybe different symptons!

I also ate a lot of ice cream / lollies and would freeze bottles of water and constantly sip and top up the bottles during the day (and night sometimes) ... bliss when the ice cold water hits the mouth.
