So what should i have for healthy eating?

so i dont know what to have for dinners and breakfast and you inbetween snacks my doctor told me another great way to keep your body healthy (well try and keep my body healthy even thow i have cancer) but i need some help figuring out what i should have some personal expierance.

  • I think he means a balanced diet, lots of fruit and vegetables, medium amount of pasta, rice and potatoes.  Not too much of things we love, chocolate, cake etc. We need a small amount of fat in our diet.  I wish I had stuck to this when I was having my treatment, as I put on 2 and a half stone, and did not find it easy to get off with the Tamoxifen, but when you are going through this you want nice unhealthy food cream teas and boxes of chocolates, but in moderation.  Oh! I am being a bit hypocritical as I did little of the healthy things.  I feel a lot better now I am on a health diet.

  • Hi Diane,

I've always tried to eat healthily even before being diagnosed with cancer, but now try even harder to 'eat well' I tend to eat cereal and toast for breakfast, homemade soup at lunch time and then a hot meal for dinner which will include lots of vegetables. I have reduced my intake of meat and have two to three meat free meals per week. I've also cut down on my sugary food intake - though I do allow myself a few treats!

My dad bought me a specific Cancer cookbook, but I'm sure you can access healthy recipes through other sources. The hospital where you have your care may also be able to offer you the services of a dietician.

I'm imagining the CRUK website will have a section on eating well. I'm extremely lucky to have a partner who is a chef :)

    Take care, Jo xx
