Smoothies

My husbands doctor has encouraged him to try to consume a lot of protein before he begins chemo. Our children which are all in their 30s are doing research on smoothies that we hope discourage the spread of the sarcoma and hopefully find recipes for high protein shakes.  We also are researching the spiru tein shake. But I have heard here that some herbs may react to chemo, there are a couple herbs in this shake. . Most doctors are not educated enough about herbs and smoothies and even the right vitamins. So we are learning on our own.  His doctor is not sure about these things I mentioned except the protein.

  • Hello Nanaof8,

I'm sorry to hear that the experience with your husband's doctor when it comes to nutrition was not that positive.

As I read your post I thought there is a number of posts you mind find interesting to read and pick ideas from under this very same topic area in which you posted, to have a go at browsing for those that might be of interest (in case you haven't yet) just click here and you should see a list of posts.

Also, feel free to phone our friendly team of cancer nurses if you think of any questions you would want to ask a medically trained person. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you. I will certainty check the site you gave. I am uncertain it your number is considered free as a regular 800 number would be here.  I do not have International calling. But I sure appreciate your help so much.

    Have a great week!

  • Hi Nanaof8,

Sorry about that, you're right - the number is only free to UK residents as we're a UK based forum. However, you can get in touch with our cancer nurses on the forum just here if you want to ask them anything (just keep in mind they will be answering from a UK perspective).

Have you managed to find any American cancer websites with a forum like ours? If not and you'd like to, I'd recommend having a look at this page on our website as I think it could be a good starting point for finding some.

I hope this helps and that you have a great week too :)

    All the best,

  • Look up the information on kefir and cancer. Kefire is readily available in supermarkets. My mum who has metatastic RCC has the cherry kefir by Bioful.  Hope this helps
