Smear test came back negative for HPV but need colposcopy

Hi,

I had a smear test in November and got the results back saying I do not have HPV but have cell changes and need to go to a colposcopy. After reading the leaflet it says if you test negative for HPV your cells won't be tested and you return to your normal yearly/3 years smear test.
I can not find anywhere that says you would need a coloppscopy if you didn't have HPV. Now I am worried the nurse that did the smear has seen something abnormal and that's why they have tested cells and some abnormalities have shown.

My last smear (3 years ago) was clear and the one before that was abnormal but after a colopscopy things were fine.

has anyone had the same results or know what this means?

I have been to the breast clinic on Monday with a lump that turned out to be a milk gland, was so relieved and excited to not worry about things and now this any advice would be much appreciated!

thanks

  • Hello Brunetteworrier

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently and that you've now been asked to attend for a colposcopy. I can understand why you're feeling concerned.

In the first instance, I'd suggest getting in touch with your GP who should be able to answer your questions but if you'd like to chat to one of our nurses about your concerns you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
