Small non painful lump under jaw?

I’ve had a small lump under my jaw for about 18 months now and it hasn’t changed size or shape. Seen two doctors about it and one said it feels loose (?) which to me it doesn’t. I’ve been doing too much Googling and I’m so so so scared it’s cancer. I’m only 22 and just about to start my life. I suffer severe anxiety which is only making it all worse. I have an ultrasound next Friday 13th (brilliant) which I feel as if I can’t wait for. I don’t know how I’m going to function for the next week. I cannot put into words how scared I am and I just want to know. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

  • Try not to worry!! (I know that’s easier said than done)

an ultra sound will give them a clearer picture....  and they will be able to see whether it needs further investigation the fact that it hasn’t changes size is something to keep positive about!

Friday 13th isn’t any different to any other Friday - I actually think it’s lucky as I get paid on 15th normally so if it’s Friday 13th it’s always payday

Googling is only useful for info when you have a diagnosis and not so when googling symptoms - I have a heart condition which currently causes no issues but I googled it when going through tests and was adamant I was going to die..... it really didn’t help!  You don’t know until you know...... try to keep busy and I’ll keep my fingers crossed it’s good news..... there are all sorts of glands around that area so possible it it something totally normal x

  • Hi I was just wondering how you got on? I am going through something very similar right now and stumbled across your post whilst googling.

  • I have the exact same thing, I’ve had it for probably 2 years and it’s only now that for some reason I’m worrying... it’s never grown, never been painful etc. I’m booking a doctors appointment first thing in the morning just to be safe! I’m only 20. Just wondering how you got on? Have you had your results yet?

  • Hi , I'm 29 years old, female and found this same lump on my left side under my jaw. I've an appointment this morning as petrified it's cancer. I have a severe anxiety problem I'm struggling to cope and my mind is upside down just now.

Has anyone got any updates from their posts?

  • hello I have a lump that came up under my chin/jaw area and it keeps coming up and down, I went to the hospital to have a ultra-sound and a blood test. My blood test came back clear however they said it was a lymph node which showed up in the ultra-sound, the Doctor didn’t have a proper explanation of what it might be. I’m only 18 and I have been panicking so much about this if anyone has any advice of what it could be I would be so very grateful X

  • Hi,

Ive had a lump in my jaw for about 9 months. I had a scan on it and it came back as 'mass' but they didnt know what it was. Blood test showed nothing, but now it has got bigger they are doing another scan. I am really worried as i have had melanoma on the bottom of my foot before.

  • Hi, so sorry it's taken such a ridiculously long time to give an update!

Long story short, they did a fine needle biopsy which suggested a benign tumour called pleomorphic adenoma in my submandibular salivary gland, but as im so young there's a high possibility of it turning cancerous throughout the next 60 years, so they said it's best to remove it.

I had the surgery on 19 July 2019 and it was my first surgery ever, but they knew I was super anxious so gave me some extra meds I think and it was great because all the anxiety was gone. I was told I'd have to stay in overnight and have staples and most likely a drain, but in reality I had stitches, no drain and got to go home same day once I had come round from the anaesthesia a bit. Honestly the whole experience was way less stressful than I had expected and I finally got the results from the pathology they did on the lump after they removed the gland in December! Quite a wait I know but it confirmed pleomorphic adenoma. I had 2 weeks off work and no bad effects except some numbness and weird sensitivity along my jaw. I can still smile properly and haven't suffered any damage to any significant nerves. My saliva production hasn't been affected either. All in all a positive experience!

  • I am also 18 and I have the same problem...a small lump under the left side of my jaw. Apparently it could be a limp node infection. Any updates ?
  • I have the same thing it's small moveable under the jaw on the right. Easier to feel if I put my chin to my chest.

    Does anyone have any updates?

  • This is what I have too, I have it on both sides but both move and again, easier to feel if I put my chin to my chest. Have you had a check up at all?

I am seeing a doctor today regarding my wisdom tooth so I am going to ask him for his opinion on it and he is a head and neck specialist.
