small cell lung cancer

hi, I'm Tracy  my mam has just been diagnosed with lung cancer after having a biopsy on a neck lump. she is terrified and I feel so sorry for her but after reading on the internet I'm expecting the prognosis to be really bad as in weeks to live. how do you cope with that? how do you get through each day just waiting for the end? I feel totally overwhelmed and useless. x

  • I don't know I'm afraid but in a similar position here. My nan was diagnosed with lung cancer on Friday. Don't know what type however has she is a heavy smoker I'm assuming it will be small cell. She has an appointment today to find out what stage it is at and what if anything they can do. I am so scared and don't know how I will cope if they tell us the worst which seems very likely at the minute
  • Hi

try not to worry yet but take it day by day. Even if you get a prognosis that is bad it is just a guess. My auntie was given 1/2omths with lung cancer but lived well for 12 - with a very peaceful quick death. My mum was told on June 14th although incurable her lung cancer was treatable and a long way from 'terminal' stages yet passed away on  July 22nd. Your mum may be in the curative stages. On the Macmillan lung cancer forum there are many people with stage 4 lung cancer who are 2/3/4 years into treatment.

I I would say live day by dat. Enjoy every well day. Once you get a treatment plan and you know what's coming a bit more you may relax and get used to living with cancer. It wasn't meant to be for my mum but then none of us know our future. Good luck x

  • That's lovely. Thank you so much x
