Sleeping position post surgery

Hello everyone.

i am 8 months post surgery to remove my oesophageal cancer. I have been told that I must not lie flat and to sleep at at least a 40 degree angle. I currently have my bed head raised and use two pillows. I wake up every morning with aching shoulders and back. There must be a better solution than this. I know there are beds that raise automatically but after a year of fighting this disease I am not in a financial position to buy one. Has anyone come across any effective means of keeping my torso at the correct angle. X thanks

  • Hello Dennyc,

I'm sorry to hear you are waking up every morning with aching shoulders and back, that can't be fun! So when I read your post I asked my colleagues if they knew of something to recommend and they mentioned this website called Live Better With there you will find a mattress ‘tilter’ which might be just what you are looking for, have a look: livebetterwith.com/.../

If you decide to go for it, please make sure you check with your specialist first, this is very important as it will prevent potential issues in case there is any.

    I hope this helps!

  • Thank you for your response, I have a mattress tilted. Unfortunately I still suffer with aches and pains when using it. However when I used the link, the picture was very interesting. . I am going to try a moulded pillow see if thar helps.

    Thank you Denice
