Signs of leukemia/lymphoma in child

I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with their child having leukemia or lymphoma? I'm worried about my 2 year old. Shes going for tests this week but I'm interested to hear what signs and symptoms your little ones had.

Thank you x

  • Hi ya ...

Firstly try not to panic ... as there can be many explanations to stuff ... but my granddaughter was lethargic  with little energy ... lots of unexplained bruising.... chest infection often ... is the main things l remember ... she was treated for low blood iron for nearly a year , if only they had done red and white cell count ... it would have said a lot more info ...

Let us know how you go ... fingers crossed ... sending a nanny hug ... try to hold on and not panic ... Chrissie x

  • Hey thanks so much for replying. She is being sent for bloods today at 2.30.

She has swollen lymph nodes on the back of her head and neck which aren't going down. They aren't getting any smaller. No signs of bruising but she is definitely more lethargic and takes sick all the time and normally needs antibiotics to make it go away.

    Thank you x

  • Well got everything crossed ... once you find out, you know what your dealing with ... I know the worry from young ones and it's not fare ... but hope you have someone to hold your hand right now ...

And no bruising is a good sign , as my granddaughter had that a lot ... Will be thinking of you ...Chrissie x

  • Thank you. Can I ask was it blood tests that showed she was ill? With doing a bit of research it shows more like lymphoma than leukemia but I don't think bloods show that. I'm wondering will she maybe need an ultrasound x

  • I'd say hold on for blood tests result ... when my son had one years ago with a lot of symptoms, I was contacted quickly as he had high blood sugar and was diagnosed with diabetes at 14 ... he's now 40 ..

But do ask about white and red cell count as that is what diagnosed my granddaughter to acute myeloid leukaemia... on going to A and E ... her doctor never looked into that ... if only he'd done the cell count .. but hold on for results ... I'm still hoping it will be something easier to treat ... it's a tad like lumps we get and most turn out to be benign .... hold on to the positive ...xx

  • Yea from reading alot of messages people have said they got a call back the same day if it was anything to worry about.

The doctor said he is checking her full blood count, her iron profile her electrolytes and for inflammation I think it is. Did your grand daughter have any swollen lymph nodes.

You wouldn't know to look at her that she is unwell. I definitely think she has low iron, her lips have been blue, she gets cold quickly. She has been sleeping all night and having long naps during the day and taking ages to wake. Shes always been an awful sleeper so this is unusual for her.

Just feel sick today and cnt wait until this day is over. Its lovely to have someone to talk to about it though x
