Sickness after stent

Good evening  My dad had a stent fitted a week last Wednesday. He then didn't eat at home, mismanaged his pain relief and was very sick. The sickness eased over the weekend. He then rang an ambulance Sunday night/Monday morning as he thought he was having a heart attack. Fortunately it was pain from the stent and he was readmitted to hospital until yesterday. Today I have been with him, sorted his medication and made sure he's eaten. He said he felt very tired. His wife has just rang and said he's been sick again. I really don't know what to do for the best. He is desperate not to go back to hospital...

I really don't know what to do.

  • Hello KateT,

How lovely of you to have been there for your dad today sorting his medication and making sure he had eaten. I think it may be a good idea if you are concerned about him to give 111 a call explaining the situation and they will be able to advise you on what to do and whether they think he needs medical attention over the weekend. If you feel it is an emergency then obviously 999 would be your best port of call.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you need to talk things through with them on Monday. Their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope he manages to sleep ok tonight and that he feels less tired and able to keep food down.

    Best wishes,
