Welcome to the Cancer Chat community grandaughter12 although I'm sorry to hear of your grandfather's diagnosis.

I can appreciate why your grandfather doesn't want to be declined for treatment but his medical team really need to be made aware of what's happening at the moment as it could be dangerous and potentially life threatening if this occurred during his operation so do be sure to make them aware of this or encourage your grandfather to do so as soon as he can.
