Severe Larynx Dysplasia , any experiences?

Hi all,

I've recently been been diagnosed with severe dysplasia of the larynx / vocal cords. Im told this it the last stage before cancer in situ or full cancer.

I'm a non smoker , light drinker  in my early forties and its come as a bit of a shock as it was just a few weeks ago I had a hoarse voice!

All of the the dysplasia was cold steel removed when they took the biopsy. I've been told by the consultant that there is a 30-40% chance of the dysplasia returning and a 10-15% of progression to cancer. does anyone out there have any similar experiences they could share with me? Anyone ever had severe dysplasia that has or hasn't progressed.

thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Hi, Anyone out there with any experiences of vocal cord dysplasia?

  • Hello Happydays, I hope you do not mind me contacting you as your post was from ages ago. I have had R severe vocal dysphasia for over a year now. Do you mind me asking now you are getting on? I have just had my 5th laser surgery ️. I hope it's all resolved for you!
  • Sorry to bump this post but came across it as my hubby has his biopsy next week and interested to know what other experiences people have had. Thanks
  • I have just been diagnosed with a low grade dysplasia and cannot find anywhere on the net how is it actually treated by NHS as they wouldn't laser anything off during the surgery so they took just 3 biopsies. Must admit i am really scared since dysplasia is precancerous thing and I really want to prevent it developing into cancer as i have read on USA article as that tends to happen if they just decide to monitor it. Seeing ENT Consultatnt tomorrow morning ot find out more as i got told the biopsy result by a doctor from my GP surgery.
