Secondary Brain Cancer

Hi

I wounder if anyone has been in a simular sutuation and what the outcome was as we wont hear anything from the hospital until Monday

My Dad is 72, a little over weight but heathly, i wouldnt say he was an old man by far. He had lung cancer in October, they removed the upper lobe of his right lung and was told all was good.

The lung has now appeared in his brain, barely no sympoms at all, just what we would class as 'getting old' a little stumbling being clumsey.

We have just had the great news the cancer hasnt spread anywhere else, its just on the brain.

My question is does anyone know what the options are next? What is the possible treatment etc

Thank you

    Hi Mab,

A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis and of it’s spread to the brain. Most of us on this site are cancer patients ourselves or are carers of cancer patients. We are not medics and, I feel that you would get a better answer from one of the nurses on this site instead of one of us ordinary members. You can either post your question in the ask the nurses section, or if you want a speedier reply, you can phone them on 0808 800 4040. This number is Freephone from a UK landline.

The other option is to sit down with his consultant and ask all the questions that are in your heads. I usually draw up a list of questions for my consultant between appointments and take hubby along to write down the answers. Don’t worry about what the specialist thinks about this. Many of us do it and he will be used to it. He is probably in the best place to answer your question, as he will have discussed this already with your dad’s MDT (multidisciplinary team). He will also know the exact stage of your dad’s cancer and have all of his medical details to hand.

I hope that you will soon get an answer to this question and that your dad continues to keep well.

Please keep in touch and let us know what his next step is. We are always here for you whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Amanda,

Wow, things seem to be moving quickly. Are they operating on your dad's brain or lung again? I know that the brain surgery can be a lengthy operation, so no doubt you are stressed out today.

I am thinking of you both and hope that this improves things for him.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Jolamine

Well Dad has his operation on Tuesday morning on his Brain to remove the Tumour and we received the miracle we all.prayed and prayed for! The surgeon removed the full tumour

He is doing BRILLIANT you wouldnt even think he had a major operation!

He is coming home tomorrow . The Doctor is sending him for 1 treatment of Radiotheropy and then we will see if anymore treatment is needed. It is a miracle

    Thank you
