SCC skin cancer / liver cysts, raised ALT, liver MRI

Hi everyone

I posted mid august with concerns about my partner.  He was diagnosed with SCC on the face in November 2020, he had to have a repeat operaton in January for the same place for wider margins.

Then had MOHS for a BCC in July.

He has his 4th operation now for Skin cancer another SCC next week.

He has had deteriorating health with one thing and another since January.

Due to this the consultant referred him for a head to groin CT scan in August.

As he got worse we went to A&E and they did an urgent CT on my partners brain.  This came back clear.

The original referral / body CT with contrast was done two days later.

The following week he was called back for a repeat CT scan on his neck area.

Results - enlarged nodes found around neck area.

They have also found something on his liver -  they mentioned hepatic cysts? and some non-specific areas difficult to characterise. The consultant said they are unsure what they are and are referring him for an MRI now of the liver.  They have said they its unlikely SCC has spread but also said they have been discussing his case in the department cancer meeting.

He is now waiting for an urgent MRI of liver and Biopsy & Ultrasound on the neck nodes.

And he has to go back for repeating the Liver function tests and referral to specialist.

His ALT bloods are slightly raised also.

The waiting and not knowing is awful!

Anyone else been through similar journey?

What could this be on his nodes / liver?

  • Hello Susu5

I'm so sorry to hear that your husband's health has been deteriorating over the past few months. It sounds like it's been an incredibly difficult time for you both and it's understandable that you're feeling worried.

I think most of our members here know how difficult waiting for tests and results can be. The unknown is a scary prospect to face. It's good to hear that the head CT scan didn't raise any immediate concerns last month and that further investigations are being arranged to try to get some answers.

We know it can sometimes help to be able to talk with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they'll be happy to talk things through with you and offer any information and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you have some news soon and that things improve for you both.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
