Salpingo oopherectomy in a few weeks

Hi, I'm new to this group so thought I'd tell you a bit about me! I'm 45, married with 3 lovely kids and I have some troublesome cysts that I'm having removed in a few weeks time. I've had 2 septated cysts on my left ovary for some time now which cause me abdominal and back pain and also pains down into my thighs and bottom! I hadn't been scanned for a while even though I was meant to have scans every 6 months but I had a lot going on so pushed it to the back of my mind. I haven't had periods properly for about 3 years now and I'm not on any contraception at all and was a bit concerned when I had a small bleed just after Christmas so thought I'd better get it checked out as sex was a bit uncomfortable too. I was scanned earlier this year and the cysts were still there but I'd since developed a new one on the right hand side! Turned out to be 8.5cm x 7.5cm x 6cm cyst which had grown over my right ovary! They weren't sure whether it had grown on my tube or ovary even when I had a transvaginal scan they couldn't go past it to have a good look. This cyst has a 7mm thick septation running about half way through it with several daughter cysts along the wall and I also have fluid in the pouch of douglas. I've had the ca125 test that came back fine at 21.9 and have seen a gynaecologist who wants to remove both tubes and ovaries and he's hoping to do this by keyhole but he says he won't know if that's possible till he gets in there. I'm a bit nervous about it all and just wanted to share my story to see if the symptoms that I'm having and the sound of the cysts are anything to worry about? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing off others xxxx

  • Hi Katie...thanks for your reply. The consultant said that he would be making 2 holes and that one would be for a bag to go around the cyst to make removal easier and in case of it bursting. I get the feeling that he wants to just remove the right cyst, ovary and tube but the cysts on the left cause me more pain than anything else so I'm waiting to hear back from his secretary as to whether he'll do both. Do you think it'd be worth me asking if he'd take more then? I dont have a clue tbh what would be best...All I know is that I'd like them gone asap! xx
  • He is a senior consultant and hes going to take both tubes and ovaries now but said he'd discuss it with me further on the day. Do you think I have anything to worry about? I had a letter saying about biopsies that are possibly going to be done and it mentioned the lymph nodes

    Thanks for replying again xxx

  • Does that mean that they'll take some samples at my pre op appointment this Friday? I haven't had a ct scan at all, just an ultrasound and transvaginal one.

It's all so confusing to me but I'm not the sharpest tool!
