My sister is in probably the final chapter of her travel with stage 4 lung cancer. She was diagnosed 6 months ago and given 6 months. She has kept to herself about it. She has always been an extremely private woman. We have not always been close but I want to be there for her. Obviously this is new for both of us. I am scared. I am angry. I want to help her but time is squishing us.

    Hello Sadie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat.I am sorry to hear about your sister's diagnosis and prognosis. The main thing is to be there for her and let her know how much she is loved. Make sure that she is as comfortable as possible. If she is well enough, this is the time to build bridges and to make memories. Try not to dwell on the inevitable, but to live each day to the full.

Cancer doesn't just affect the patient. It affects the entire family and it is heartbreaking to watch a loved one fail day by day.

Being scared and angry are perfectly normal emotions when you get a cancer diagnosis. In fact, there are a whole raft of  other emotions that people feel.at a time like this too.

Do you live near to her and do you have family or friends who can support you through this?

Please keep in touch. We are always here for you whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
