Right Side Tonsil Enlarged

Hello,

I am doing this in hopes of straightening out my mind.

I have used Google and usually I can Google absolutely anything and not freak out but my anxiety this time is destroying me.

For 8 weeks now, the tonsil on the right side has been swollen. I have had no pain, no bleeding, no difficultly breathing and only occasionally food catches. Basically if I hadn't looked in my mouth I wouldn't even know it was there.

I decided to go to my GP who wasn't concerned apparently but sent me to the hospital anyway. There the consultant dropped the bomb shell that I needed them out, my GP had sent me citing suspected cancer and when the consultant told me this the world stopped. The consultant did not give his opinion but wrote he could not feel anything in my neck.

My surgery is 20th November 2019 and I'm scared to death. Just wondering what if it is? Yet I have virtually no symptoms. The GP said to me he believed it was just a fleshy Tonsil and the consultant said the only way to know for sure is to have them out.

My right tonsil is swollen and has a small spot on it. My Uvula and left tonsil appear normal to me.

I keep trying to tell myself that I'm not ill and if anything it's benign. But being someone who suffers anxiety and has bad anxiety around medical procedures i'm kinda falling apart.

PS, I've never had tonsillitis and haven't had a recent cold and/or sore throat or ear pain.

  • Hi DinkyPanda and welcome to the forum.

Having lots of thoughts to contend with whilst waiting for surgery can be tough, so I hope writing everything down helped to clear your mind.

I noticed you said your surgery is tomorrow so I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we'll be thinking of you.

Fingers crossed for good results DinkyPanda.

    Kind regards,
