Reoccurence of breast cancer

why, when you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, grade 3 stage 1 ,triple negative. You complete treatment and then they say, mamagram every year, do as I am told, each time they come back clear, yesterday told I have local reaccurence in the skin, in the same breast, do I find out that does not show up in a mamagram but a scan. If that is the case, why are people not told this information but why are they not offered a scan. Asked the doctor and the Macmillan nurse this yesterday and they would not answer me, 3 times I asked and they swerved the question every time, saying, we need to go forward from here, well goddam no, answer the bloody question. So for all those in the same boat, you need to querie this and also a local accurence usually means it has spread, I only finished my treatment 3 years in Feb 2020. Am appalled, especially with the answers I received yesterday and I said so.

  • Hello Nanajanet,

I am sorry to hear you have had a reoccurrence of breast cancer and that it has left you with unanswered questions about why people are not offered a scan. You did well to ask the doctor and the nurse for more information and I hope you eventually get somewhere and get some answers. I hope you will get to chat to others here who are in the same boat.

Feel free also to give our nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 - their free helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and I am sure they will be happy to talk to you about all this.

    Best wishes,

  • You have my every sympathy, I was first diagnosed with DCIS but post op found invasive in both breasts. I asked why the invasive went undetected (they were of a size that should have shown up in the 20 or so mammograms I had) I was told "we do not have the technology" and a MRI was ordered. I am now back to yearly mammograms but as far as I'm concerned they are not fit for purpose hence why I have booked my own yearly MRI scans, thankfully I can afford it but I worry about those who can't. x
