Red patch on bladder post BCG for CIS

Please if you had any experience with this or knowledge about it to.

I was diagnosed with bladder CIS in 2013, since then I was on BCG treatment: weekly for 6 weeks then every 3 months then every 6 months.

today after cystoscopy, 3 red patches were found, although I was assured that it maybe inflammation, I am not sure if I should still worry, cytology was ordered but it will take 5days to get results and I am not sure how precise it would be.

please help if you have experienced the same

  • Welcome to the forum Hanna.

It can be nerve-racking waiting for results and it's understandable why you may be feeling worried.

Now I've replied your post has moved to the top of our forum and hopefully our lovely members will pop by soon to share their experiences with you.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Hanna, welcome to the forum, but sorry for why you're here. I have bladder cancer as well, and was also diagnosed in 2013. I've also been through the same scenario as you regarding cystos, BCG, scan, TURBT, and surgeries of all sorts. I did have an occasion when my bladder was covered in red, raw patches, and it did clear up. Apparently in my case, this was likely caused by the BCG treatments. I can't say that it may be the cause of yours. I was clear at my last cystoscopy, but am due any day now for another one. I was told that because bladder cancer has a high recurrance rate, be prepared that my next cysto might very well show that the tumors are back.

Here in Canada, we have a forum strictly for Bladder Cancer that has a wealth of information along with lots of people with bladder cancer. You are likely in the UK, but I can't see why you wouldn't also be able to access this forum here in Canada. We have forum members from the U.S. and I'm on this forum and I'm from Canada. Just go online and type in "Bladder Cancer Canada" and that should take you to it. The reason I'm on this forum is that I also have other cancers not related to bladder cancer, so I needed to communicate with people with cancer in general.

Come back on here and let us know how you get along and what the outcome of your cytology is when you receive. I also would like to know if you're able to access our Bladder Cancer forum.

Take care and hoping things turn out okay for you.
