Rectal/Tailbone pressure plus changes in bowel movements.

Hi All,

Around 10 days ago I began with constipation and a feeling of fullness or pressure in the rectum/tailbone area.

After booking in at the doctors I was advised I had an anal fissure. I already knew this as had been advised of this previously. This was a small stinging cut around the anal opening. This has never caused such a dull ache higher up the rectum so I was a little frustrated at my symptoms being linked to this. I was prescribed cream for the fissure and laxatives for the constipation.

After laxatives I began to go to the toilet but not as I normally would do. It seemed I couldn't fully empty the bowels and the rectal/tailbone pressure was constantly there regardless of what I did.

After another doctors appointment I was sent for a blood test and a stool sample was requested. Bloods came back fine with high iron levels. I have to be checked again in 3 months regarding the elevated iron levels. Stool sample has just came back with no inflammatory markers so I assume this rules out IBS/IBD. I have an appointment to discuss this tomorrow with the doctor.

I have struggled with appetite and lost 6lbs in 6 days. I have also felt pretty fatigued but this may be due to lack of food.

My concern is that the rectal pressure is still here. It almost feels as if something has been inserted behind my tailbone and inflated.

Could anybody with similar symptoms or knowledge in this area please help with some advice?

My obvious concern is cancer. I am 31 years old and relatively healthy so this has came as a shock.

Thanks In advance!

  • Hi Liwoo and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the symptoms you're experiencing at the moment but you did the right thing by going to see your doctor about this.

How did you get on at your appointment the other day to discuss the results of the tests you've just had? I hope you were able to get your questions answered but do be sure to get back in touch with them to discuss anything else that may be playing on your mind.

Now that I've replied, you'll hopefully hear from some of our members that have been in similar situations.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

Just wondered how you got on since this? I have very similar symptoms to yourself?

    Thanks

  • Hi

im desperate to find out the outcome of your symptoms as I have had the same for few years and never convinced of the diagnosis/treatment Iv received. Your symptoms sound the same. Iv gone as far as steroid injection into tailbone area ....even though Iv never been convinced it was the actual tailbone. It was more like , as you describe , an inflated ball/bag with pressure and sharp spin.

iv had X-ray, mri. That vastly toilet test! An internal inspection by a bum doc and physio called biofeedback!
Do come back l to me.

  • Hi there, after a number of internal examinations and telling me there was nothing wrong, I began to feel quite unwell at work and decided to go to A&E. I had another internal which shown nothing but a scan showed fecal impaction in the colon. I was prescribed strong laxatives to clear and over a few weeks the problem resolved itself with regards to the pressure feeling. I have had IBS symptoms since this time which I never experienced prior but I have heard this can happen with fecal impaction. I am always very wary with my bowels now and do have concerns when I'm feeling some pain but overall I feel 1000% better and have come to the conclusion that I am fine now other than the IBS. At the time I felt quite poorly and very very down in terms of mood, almost as if I had a mini blip of depression but I believe it is all linked with bowel health and mood.

I hope you find a resolution to your problem! And I hope you can find someone with similar ongoing issues. I know how frustrating that can be!

    Good luck!

  • Hello,

I am 31 also and going through what sounds exactly the same as you. I am going for a colonoscopy on Thursday to see if there are any concerning problems.

I would advise that you ask your Doctor to refer you to hospital to get all the checks done..

Much rather me safe than sorry

  • Hi i wonder if you could help me, i have something very similar toy you, mine started about 3 weeks ago, i linked it to a big bike ride i went on becuase ever since then i havent been able to go properly, the only time i can actually go is if i have a laxitive as i am not getting the urge to go at all! doctors obviously prescribed laxitives, then it was enema but still no change! basically if i dont take a laxitive i cant go.

i also have a pain in my tail bone area which comes and goes with my bloated feeling, but i keep getting fobbed off with, drink water, eat fiber and take a laxitive.

i just wondered how you got diagnosed with a fecal impaction as i myself was wondering i that could be the cause

  • Hey all,

I've had all sorts of health problems in my 20s (including IBSc and kidney cancer), but separate to these ive also had this pressure feeling you are all describing. I've found out through trial and error what's triggering the pressure - Iron Consumption. I can't find any info of this anywhere, but I'm absolutely certain that eating foods high in iron brings on the symptoms for me. If I have floradix (iron supplement) I'm guaranteed to have the pressure for a week or so. If I have steak I'll get mild pressure. You need iron in the diet of course, but I stick to kale/spinach for iron. I avoid vitamin supplements that have iron in them and also avoid red meat. Good luck to you all and hope this could help someone
