  • Hello unsureH,

I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have had this type of reconstruction before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you. There is information on this page on different types of breast reconstruction that might be available. You will also find out more here about the DIEP flap reconstruction. Feel free to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to talk things through with them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope you get to see this surgeon soon and have a chance to talk about your reconstruction options.

    Best wishes,

Have seen my surgeon who is saying due to covid lengthy operations to over 60 year olds  are on hold as the age group with8-10 hour operations are more susceptible to catching covid  .. upset at this as made it clear I didn't want a mastectomy without reconstruction... he is at a meeting today to discuss my case and see if I could go on a drug to block the cancer for a short time , while awaiting reconstruction  or if he could remove cancer and leave breast for short time...they may stop operations for 6 months who knows...   I am going to see a plastic surgeon Tue who will assess if I am a candidate for the DIEP at a later date. ... then I will go back to my Specialist for an answer on what we can do ....  my problem is it's the same breast as before so mastectomy and hopefully reconstruction is only option.... radiotherapy been done before so that's another reason they have to assess.

My breast care nurse is very good and recommended groups as well I wanted to see how others got on in same situation..

    Thank you once again  xx
