Radiotherapy/Tamoxifen

Hello,

Just thought I’d pop on and say hello.

so been on tamoxifen for 4 weeks now, I was terrified of taking this pill but do you know I feel pretty damn good, also haven’t had a headache since started taking it and I use to get quite a few.

Have just had my 5th session of radiotherapy and all good so far, skin is a little sore but nothing I can’t cope with.

So really just wanted to say to those who haven’t started either of the above yet, it hasn’t been anywhere near as awful as I thought it was going to be.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend x

  • Hi Ploppy,

Thank you so much for your positive post - I'm sure this will be incredibly helpful to others in a similar situation.

I'm very glad to hear you're feeling good and that treatment is going well.

    Thank you again.

    All the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Ploppy, I’ve just seen your new post. I’m so glad it’s going well with you and I find it very encouraging.

I’ve been on tamoxifen for 21 days now. I’ve been having hot flushes at night and my sleep is all over the place so I am dog tired. But can I blame it on the tamoxifen? Well, I’ve been a poor sleeper for quite a few years and of course it’s been SO hot.  An elderly cat that was prowling and howling (that’s her in the picture) contributed to a particularly bad night last night and I can’t blame HER for tamoxifen side effects, can I?!

I still haven’t got the dates for my radiotherapy but I had an appointment last week when we went through the consent form, side effects, etc. Waiting for planning appointment letter.  I just want to get on with it, I’ve got some gorgeous natural skincare ready to use on my boob.  What are you using (because I can recommend if you’d like)?

Keep up the good work! Xx

  • Hi Nobby,

My sleep was pretty bad at the beginning but I was tending to snooze in the afternoon, now I don’t let myself and am keeping really busy, dog walks, housework etc and I am now sleeping like a baby.

When I had my first oncology appointment I was told it would be about 3 weeks till my planning appt, it came through within a week which was great.

I’m only using E45 and it seems to be doing the job at the mo.

Hope you get your date soon and you manage to get some sleep, nothing worse than not getting any sleep.

    Take care x

  • Hi Ploppy and NobbyWatts

I just found this post and wanted to thank you for starting it and for sharing your experiences. It’s so helpful to know at least in part what I might be able to expect. I’ve been told Radiotherapy and Tamoxifen most likely for my treatment and am now waiting for my referral to Oncology. It’s great to hear it isn’t as bad as I might have anticipated and it has reminded me to keep positive! I hope you are both doing well. If you have any tips as time goes on I’d be grateful!

    xxx

  • I had my radiotherapy planning session today.  The two ladies who measured me up and scanned me were really lovely and I felt very much at ease with them. I’ve had the 3 little dot tattoos today as well.  Now I’m all set to start the sessions on 20th August.

I’ll let you know how the radiotherapy goes! Keep positive! Xx

  • Hello,

So glad to hear you aren’t so concerned about your upcoming treatment.

i have my last radiotherapy session tomorrow, can’t quite believe it’s almost over, my skin is very pink but I just cover it in E45 3 times a day and that has really helped, had a bit of itchiness yesterday which I mentioned and straight away they gave me a prescription for a steroid cream which has worked wonders.

Ive still not had any major issues with tamoxifen, my husband actually said that I seemed more chilled since I started taking it, who knows.

Hi Nobby, all systems go for you now then, I too found all the staff I have come across to be so lovely and caring, which has been great. Hope your treatment goes ok.

As Nobby said, positive thinking xx
